CHENNAI

GALLERY CAFE,

ANNA NAGAR

AREA - 2500 SQ.FT

Walking into the bistro, one will notice the distinctive outlook of an up-scale resto-bar with a palette of subdued tones. Keeping the double-heighted space in mind, we focused with covering the ‘sky’ with bamboo and the ‘ground’ with brick pavers. The expansive open facades blur the boundaries between the outside and the inside all the while maintaining warmth with the wooden louvers.

These earthy neutral canvases allowed us to bring in a mix of eclectic pieces of furniture. Fabricated out of a carrera stone, this community table stands long like a center piece. Ending with the bar space in sight, where the play of levels is in effect, directs all attention to the bar table that integrates slats of wood and cement illuminated with backlighting. This arena speaks the language of a cohesive and inclusive environment. Ascending to the mezzanine level, the space is engulfed with seating arrangements of the same typology of furniture materials. Enveloping the space, are the elements of lighting in unique forms and materials of cane, concrete and wrought-iron that brings together the voluminous area.

All in all, the design language imbibes its inspiration from Geoffrey Bawa and as homage to his tropical nature, we call this bistro ‘The Gallery’.
